Homemade Blackberry Lemonade

A refreshing fruity homemade drink

When your garden gives you blackberries, you make lemonade :)

This summer has been full of surprises for me, not just because of what is happening in the world, but also the many changes that are happening in my personal and professional life. New exciting jobs coming up, looking for a new place to live and all the delicious garden projects that have turned out great :)

Blackberries were actually no new garden project as they were already growing in our garden when we got it. However, somehow last year we didn't have that much berries which then has really been different this year as I feel like we don't have enough hands to pick them all and not enough mouths to eat them all :D So what I have been doing because of this is thinking outside the box, what else can I make with blackberries apart from the usual blackberry jam that I would make (which I love btw.).

So on the day I created this Lemonade recipe I also made a really, I mean really, yummy Blackberry Chocolate Cake, and yes you will be getting the recipe for it very soon :) I made the cake first and I still had so much leftover blackberries. It was a really warm day and I was craving for something refreshing and yet delicious to drink, so that was it, I made some Lemonade :) I know the recipe calls for quite a bit of honey or sugar if you decide to substitute, but since some of my blackberries were on the sour side and also we have the lemon adding some sourness, I added that amount of sweetness to balance it out. If you prefer it a little more sour then just add a little less and also make sure you taste before you serve the lemonade, then you can still adjust any flavours to your liking :)

Keep yourself hydrated Lovelies, especially in a hot weather! And I hope my delicious Homemade Blackberry Lemonade will make it tasty and enjoyable for you :)

Homemade Blackberry Lemonade

A refreshing fruity homemade drink

  • juice of 2 big lemons

  • 300g (about 2 cups) fresh or frozen blackberries

  • 150g (½ cup) honey or brown sugar

  • 1.5 (a little over 6 cups) litres cold water

  • 3 branches of mint

  • ice

  • lemon slices, extra mint and blackberries for decoration

  1. Squeeze the juices out of the lemons.

  2. In a small pot combine the lemon juice and the honey. Heat the juice with the honey over medium heat just until the honey has dissolved into the juice. Remove from heat.

  3. Add the blackberries to the pot and leave for about 15 minutes. Then mash the blackberries lightly.

  4. In a big jug (about 2 litre/ 8 ½ cup volume) add in the mint, the lemon slices and pour over the quick blackberry syrup. Top up with cold water.

  5. Serve with ice, lemon slices and decorated with some mint and fresh blackberries.

  6. Enjoy!

TIP. If you are using frozen blackberries defrost them first completely and only then start making the lemonade.
