Stir Fried Bok Choy

A simple side dish to serve with rice

IMG_3352.JPG

Have you ever had Bok Choy?

I love eating vegetables and I rarely find any new ones since I always try to incorporate anything new I find into my dishes. However, sometimes it still happens that I find a vegetable in the market that I have never had before and that was exactly the case with bok choy until last year. Last year I decided I want to give it a go and try out this new vegetable. Since then I have been buying it weekly during my grocery shopping as I find the fact that it is so easy to prep really appealing. Also it can be cooked on its own like in todays recipe or it can be well incorporated into a noodle or rice stir fry dishes.

Todays recipe is very simple and uses only a few ingredients. I decided to keep it this way as I think that is the best way to embrace the taste of the main ingredient. In the future I will also share other recipes, more complex recipes with bok choy, but as the first one I wanted to share this one. This is also my favourite way to cook bok choy, since it is so quick and easy, but it still doesn't lack flavour. If you are trying bok choy for the first time using this recipe, I hope you will also enjoy the simplicity of this dish.

In this recipe I used garlic and chilli to infuse the oil, but if you don't like or cannot eat spicy food, then you can skip the chilli.

When it comes to serving this bok choy, I like to serve it with some rice or enjoy it as it is for a light dinner. However, you can also serve it as a side or with some noodles. If you come up with a new way of serving it, please let me know in the comments and I will be happy to try it out as well :)

Enjoy Lovelies!

Stir Fried Bok Choy

A simple side dish to serve with rice

INGREDIENTS

(makes about 2 portions)

  • 2 garlic cloves

  • ½ chilli

  • 4 bok choy

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • olive oil as needed

  • freshly ground black pepper to taste

  • sesame seeds for serving (optional)

DIRECTIONS

  1. Peel the garlic and slice finely. Also slice the chilli finely.

  2. Wash the bok choy well, make sure to let the water run between the leafs as there can be some dirt. Then half the bok choy.

  3. Heat a big pan over medium heat, once warm cover the bottom with olive oil. Add the garlic and chilli and fry for a couple of minutes to infuse the oil. Add bok choy cut side down and fry for a couple of minutes or until lightly golden. Turn off the heat, add soy sauce and season with black pepper to taste. Cover with a lid, take off the heat and allow to sit for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.

  4. Garnish with sesame seeds before serving.
