Bacon Deviled Egg, Turkey Pinwheel or a Stuffed Date? Which would you choose first? :)

I feel so weird about the year coming to its end. Somehow to me it just doesn't feel like it's December and that this is the last days of 2019. It is not really that I feel super sad about it or something like that, I just don't feel like it is the end of the year and that it is soon New Year. But you know, it doesn't matter how I feel about it, it will come anyway :D And so I have to be ready with some delicious food on my side.

This year we are going to celebrate small and it will just be the four of us. This also means that we are trying to keep it down when it comes to food and not cook too much so that we won't end up waisting food. However, I still like making different kinds of things for New Year and so I felt like a platter of some easy to make but delicious appetizers with some variety would be a perfect fit. This being said, it doesn't mean that these only fit to small parties as you can always just double or triple the recipe and have enough for even a big group of people :)

So to film the recipe and to test the recipe I made these appetizers today and you know, I knew I would love them all as I kind of chose the things I really enjoy eating :D But then when it comes to my boyfriend I felt really unsure how he would feel about the turkey pinwheels with cranberries and pecan nuts and also the stuffed dates. He really loved the pinwheels and made some yummy noises while eating, which is always the best approval :) Then after a lot of thinking (which was funny to watch from the side :D) he finally got over it and tried one of the dates. To my suprise he said, that even if he didn't excpect to like them, he actually really did :) So all three got thumbs up from him as well :)

Now that the recipe passed our approval and our taste test I am happy to share it with all of you and also happy that I have a great appetizer platter to take with me to our New Year celebration :)

I hope you will enjoy these easy to make, delicious holiday party appetizers! And now I would like to say, Happy New Year Lovelies & all the best for 2020!! :)

RECIPE

Holiday Party Appetizers

Bacon deviled eggs, turkey pinwheels and stuffed dates

INGREDIENTS

Bacon Deviled Eggs

  • 5 hard boiled eggs

  • 1-2tbsp mayonnaise

  • ground black pepper

  • 2 stripes of bacon (fried until crunchy)

  • some chives

Turkey Pinwheels

  • 2 tortillas

  • 150g (2/3 cup) cream cheese (natural flavour)

  • 1-2 handfuls of dried cranberries

  • 1-2 handfuls of chopped pecan nuts

  • some chives

  • about 100g (about 3.5oz) turkey meat

  • wooden toothpicks or skewers

Stuffed Dates

  • 10 pitted dates

  • 10 pecan nuts

  • goats soft cheese (cream cheese)

DIRECTIONS

  1. To make the deviled eggs, peel the eggs carefully not to break them, half the eggs and remove the egg yolks into a small bowl. Add two tablespoons of mayonnaise to the egg yolks along with some black pepper. Mash the yolks and the mayonnaise with a fork until you have a smooth paste like consistency. Add some more mayonnaise if needed. Spoon the mashed egg yolks into the egg white shells, about a heaped teaspoon for each. Chop the crunchy bacon to make the bacon crunch. Also chop the chives. Sprinkle some bacon crunch and chives over the deviled eggs.

  2. To make the turkey pinwheels, spread half of the cream cheese over one tortilla evenly with a spoon. Sprinkle over some dried cranberries and chopped pecan nuts. Chop the chives and also sprinkle some over the tortilla. Add about half of the turkey meat on top and roll the tortilla tightly into a roll. Repeat with the second tortilla. Cut bite sized pieces from the tortilla rolls and pierce a wooden toothpick through to hold the pinwheels together.

  3. To make the stuffed dates, spoon the goats soft cheese inside the dates and decorate with a pecan nut on top.
